Earth Observation Specialist (Python Developer)

On behalf of our client, an innovative Informatics and Technology company, specializing in the development of Web- and Cloud-based integrated information systems and applications meeting high requirements, we are looking for an Earth Observation Specialist with experience in satellite image processing to join the team. 

The primary responsibility will be to develop a satellite image processing pipeline in collaboration with other team members. This pipeline will be developed in Python and will focus on orchestrating various image processing libraries and external tools to effectively process satellite imagery. The candidate will actively participate in the ESA project and contribute to its data lake component. After the ESA project, the developer will be integrated into the pool of developers for other similar projects.

Your day-to-day

• Design and develop a satellite image processing pipeline in Python
• Integrate and orchestrate existing libraries and external tools for image processing
• Work with the team to optimize the pipeline for performance, scalability, and accuracy
• Contribute to the Data Lake component by implementing image processing workflows for satellite data
• Collaborate closely with data scientists, DevOps engineers, and other software developers
• Maintain documentation and ensure high-quality, testable code

What you will need

• Proven experience as a Python Developer or Earth Observation Specialist with expertise in image processing (satellite imagery)
• Familiarity with image processing libraries such as GDAL, OpenCV, Rasterio, or similar
• Familiarity with EO data cubes and STAC
• Firm understanding of key principles of Remote Sensing and GIS
• Experience in using geospatial tools like QGIS or ArcGIS is a plus
• Experience in integrating and working with external tools or APIs
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative attitude
