Enhancing User Safety: Google's AI-Powered Scam Detection on Android

Google has introduced "AI Mode", a new experimental feature in its Search Labs designed to enhance user search experiences by integrating advanced artificial intelligence capabilities.
At the same time, the company has launched AI-powered scam detection for Android devices to help users identify and avoid conversational fraud.
AI Mode: A New Search Experience
AI Mode leverages Google's Gemini 2.0 model alongside its existing information systems to deliver more detailed and context-rich search results. This feature enables users to ask complex questions and receive AI-generated responses, complete with follow-up questions and relevant web links. The system is also designed to recognize uncertainties and may decline to provide AI-generated summaries when confidence levels are low.
User Interaction and Accessibility
Users can access AI Mode by visiting google.com/aimode or by entering a search query and selecting the AI Mode option. Currently, this experimental feature is available exclusively to Google One AI Premium subscribers.
AI-Powered Scam Detection for Android
Beyond AI Mode, Google has also introduced AI-driven scam detection on Android devices to protect users from fraudulent conversations. These on-device AI models analyze conversation patterns in real time, alerting users to potential scams. The feature is enabled by default for conversations with unknown numbers and is currently rolling out in English across the U.S., U.K., and Canada, with plans for broader expansion.
Conclusion
With AI Mode and AI-powered scam detection, Google is reaffirming its commitment to improving user experiences and security through artificial intelligence. As these features continue to evolve, they could redefine how people interact with search engines while offering enhanced protection against emerging threats.
